SCO's Death as Shakespeare
SCO: Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this son of York.
Novell: Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow creeps in this petty case from day to day to he last syllable of recorded time.
IBM: SCO's but a walking shadow.
Groklaw, chorus of Slashdot readers and industry analysts: Out, out brief candle!
It's almost funny

Don't execute your data
This promises to make me laugh, even if no one else does. Posting here...for the same reason that it exists. Talking to yourself via gtalk feels crazy sometimes, even though it's equally searchable.

A New Game!
I just created a new game with wikipedia. I'm probably not the first one who tried this, but I wanted to share it...
1. You take two compleetly unrelated articles (eg:A gaussian beam, and the game flOw)
2. From the in-text links and the "See also" links, you try to get from one to the other.
3. It is permitted to use the "back" button of your browser, but only in really desperates cases.
You'll learn a lot of stuff playing this.
EDIT: For extra challenge, you can't use the time-period pages

Seed Magazine
Just found another great source for cutting edge science news with more of a cultural focus.
Seed Magazine
Their current article on the Blue Brain project is exciting. I really like their modeling approach, and it seems its paying off for them. They've successfully built a computational model of a rat's neocortical column based on molecural and electrical data collected using the patch clamp method.
And there's nothing saying what they've done so far won't scale up to a whole brain. This is the stuff of science fiction! Calls into question the definition of consciousness, etc....

Who would have thought....
This article in the Wall Street Journal looks at why Finnish schools produce such well educated people (compared to the rest of the world, including the US).
Here's an excerpt:
"Visitors and teacher trainees can peek at how it's done from a viewing balcony perched over a classroom at the Norssi School in Jyväskylä, a city in central Finland. What they see is a relaxed, back-to-basics approach. The school, which is a model campus, has no sports teams, marching bands or prom."
